Comfort Quilts

Comfort quilts are an integral part of the guild, with  kits available and help for those needing that special piece or batting to finish a donated quilt. We hold an annual “Comfort Quilts” day at our February meeting, with members participating in cutting, piecing, sandwiching or quilting.

The following are sizes for donated quilts:

Crib: 47” x 47”
Twin: 58” x 65”
Hospice: 58” x 90”
Wheelchair: 36” x 48”
Lap: 40” x 55”

A variation of maximum 4” in either direction is perfectly acceptable.

These quilts are donated to community members in need of some comfort.

In September 2019, we donated 135 quilts to North Shore charities and health-care providers.

Quilts of Valour

In the Fall of 2018, the Canadian Quilters’ Association was calling for members and guilds to submit blocks for quilts of valour. The Grouse Mountain Quilters took on this challenge and sent over 90 blocks to the conference in Ottawa. Once they were on their way, nothing more was thought of these blocks until an article in the Canadian Quilters magazine finished the story. Our blocks were picked up by a guild in Nova Scotia, a quilt was completed and donated to a veteran.

After learning about this, we were inspired to complete a quilt of valour during our 2019/2020 guild year.
